The food was great and the service was amazing. Our waitress was fast and friendly! The food was a little pricey but it was worth it! I would have liked to see a more extensive menu. The view on the waterfront was great and so relaxing. Will definitely be back!

We went to 51 House at my sister's recommendation. She ate there earlier this month and had a wonderful experience. She met the owmer who was wonderful and was given a $20.00 off card to return and a bag of thier popcorn. She raved about the food and the staff. My mother and I are visiting from out of town.
We had a reservation at 6:30 and arrived on time and were seated at a beautiful table looking at the water. We ordered drinks which took about 15 minutes to get but all 3 were exceptional. The waitress Julia brought the sweet potato biscuits which were quite good. I asked Julia what made them spicey but she said she had no idea, she didn't like sweet potatoes she said. I thought that was odd, thinking a waitress should know what is in the house biscuits. We ordered 3 appetizers, brie, Caprese salad and the sliders. An hour later we had not received the appetizers and Julia never visisted our table so we did not know why it was taking so long. As a member of a restaurant family I know that salads and brie would be made ahead of time and are easy to get out quickly. We asked her if we could cancel the appetizers and just get our food. By now it was almost 8:00 and my 86 year old mother was fading without any food. She said the entrees were at least 30 minutes out and walked away. A few minutes later the appetizers arrived. The Caprese was fine, nothing exceptional. The sliders were good. The brie was slightly melted on the bottom but very cold and hard in the center. 15 minutes later the entrees arrived. We asked Julia if she could microwave the brie so we could eat it. 2 of us ordered the salmon and both of ours were delicious. I asked for the house "our" Gratin potatoes as a side but when they arrived the cheddar cheese on top was cold so I asked if they could be put under the broiler to melt. My sister ordered the vegetarian meal which was described as grilled portabello mushrooms, zucchini, spinach, roasted red peppers with a white bean garlic puree, served with whole grain bread. The dish was quite tasty but it did not have mushrooms or zucchini and there was no bean puree, instead it was floating in butter. Aslo no whole grain bread was with it. My mother ordered the prime rib medium rare. It arrived well done and the popover was burnt and not edible. The brussel sprouts were good so she ate those until my side of potatoes came back and she ate those for her dinner. I asked Julia if there was a problem in the kitchen and she said yes they were short a cook and one of the waitress/managers was in there helping. I understand that things go wrong in restaurants especially staff problems but I think Julia should have made an effort to update us and try to explain why things were taking so long. Everyone in my family has waited tables and my mother owned a restaurant. I as a waitress have been in the same position but always tried to keep the guests informed, offer more bread, intereact and acknowledge how long things are taking. Just socializing with the guests in that situation can make the difference between a happy guest and a pissed off one. I don't know if things were off because the owner was not there but the restaurant was not full. All of the appetizers and my mother's entree were comped which was appreciated. I did tip Julia 30% becuase I felt bad for her but if she had been more interactive and more personable I probably would have tipped her more.
The place is beautiful and I will definately try it again. I don't think anyone should make a final judgement on any restaurant after one visit. -

The sign is outside saying open from 4:40 PM. Yet when I walked in to request a seat for one person I was turned down because they are having two parties coming and cannot serve me until 7:30 PM. Why have the sign outside if you're not open for the public who does not belong to the party. And why not having a sign outside at the door stating the fact that you can have parties till 7:30 PM

We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. The setting is historic and beautiful. The food...wow! My husband and I ordered the fried calamari, and it was so fresh, crispy and seasoned to perfection. Next, we shared the Captain's Platter. It was more than enough for the 2 of us. This dish was so flavorful and delicious. We were both very satisfied. I must add, the staff are extremely friendly. We live about an hour away, but will definitely visit The 51 House again!!!

First time here. Nice atmosphere. Love the decor. Mismatch chairs were my favorite. Nice view. Food was amazing. Owner greeted us at the door, very nice touch. The only thing I would suggest is a little less dressing on the Cesar salad. The sweet potato biscuits with homemade honey butter was delicious! Definitely a "do again"!
